Post Office issues warning over busiest day ahead of Christmas

Peak posting day in post offices for Christmas gifts is likely to be Monday (20).

According to the Post Office, December 20 will be the busiest day for its branches as shoppers hurry to ship last minute gifts and presents. To combat the long queues, the Post Office is advising those posting internationally or looking to post second class, to do so now.

The company also said this could be the busiest day because it marks the last full working week before Christmas. The last day for Christmas Royal Mail 2nd class posting is Saturday (18) while the last day for Royal Mail 1st class is Tuesday (21).

In 2019, the two weeks ahead of Christmas saw post offices more than double their trading activity and the Post Office is warning customers of a similar pattern this year.

Recent Post Office research has shown that 25 percent of Britons are worried they will be seen to be not making an effort if Christmas gifts don’t arrive on time.

Britons should get ahead of the festive rush and to help avoid long queues, Laura Joseph, Post Office Customer Experience Director, shared top tips for Britons posting this Christmas.

“Where possible, avoid the lunchtime rush and make use of longer opening hours by popping in early or in the evening, perhaps after work,” she said.

“Try to prepare what you can before you head into the branch to save time.
