A man has been arrested after a store owner’s ear was partially bitten off in a fight.

The altercation reportedly began inside the shop, with a store worker being punched to the face, and spilled out into the street.

Officers arrived at the scene on Wiverton Road in the Forest Fields area of Nottingham, at around 4.40pm on Wednesday (24 November), and found three men fighting – one armed with a baseball bat.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of racially aggravated assault, threats to kill and grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody as enquires continue.

“The victim had to be taken to hospital after reportedly having part of his ear bitten off during the altercation but his injuries are not thought to be life-altering or life-threatening,” Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said.

“This was an alarming incident for those who witnessed it but I would like to reassure the public that we are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward as it may help with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information or CCTV footage is urged to contact 101, quoting incident number 502 of 24 November 2021.
