E10 rollout: one month to go

Fuel retailers are being urged to ensure that they are prepared for the rollout of the E10 fuel grade, set to take effect on 1 September in Britain and in early 2022 in Northern Ireland.

Part of the government’s Transportation Decarbonisation Plan, E10 petrol is being introduced as the UK-wide standard petrol grade at pumps. Unleaded petrol currently contains up to 5% bioethanol, a grade known as E5, whereas E10 petrol contains up to 10% bioethanol.

The government claims that E10 petrol will reduce CO2 emissions from petrol vehicles and could help the UK meet emissions reductions targets.

The Department for Transport (DfT) has produced a wide range of communications assets to help forecourt retailers communicate the changes to their customers using the “Know Your Fuel” campaign.

The Association of Convenience Retailers has urged all fuel retailers to brief their staff and communicate the change to their customers to avoid confusion. The trade body has also launched a video explaining E10.
