Bestway donates over 80 tonnes of flour to the Felix Project

Bestway Wholesale said it has donated over 80 tonnes of self-raising flour to the Felix Project, the charity fighting hunger and food waste, this year.

Based in London with a warehouse at Park Royal close to Bestway Wholesale’s head office, Felix Project saves surplus food from suppliers and redistributes it to charities.

Woodland Group’s domestic fleet, Woodland Logistics, supported the donation by delivering the 80 tonnes of flour to London.

The flour has been sent to hundreds of charities across London. These included Freedom’s Ark, a community church in Tottenham operating a Community Food hub in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting for vulnerable people in the community; Newham Muslim Safety Forum, working in alliance with mosques, organisations and community activists to distribute free food parcels to fight poverty in the local community; and Hope for Humanity, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the UK and internationally, who run a food bank service in London.

“We chose to donate the flour to this wonderful charity because as we know it will help many other charities across London right in the communities that Bestway serves. Frighteningly, 1.5 million adults and 400,000 go hungry and we need to do everything we can to help make this change,” Dawood Pervez, managing director at Bestway Wholesale said.

Richard Smith, supply manager at the Felix Project, commented: “We are so thankful to Bestway for donating flour to our charity and for their partner Woodland Group to support without hesitation. Bestway’s flour arrived during the height of lockdown and has been brilliant for the charities and communities we support. We encourage any organisation with surplus food to get in touch with The Felix Project and don’t let it go to waste.”
