A call to the police by a concerned neighbour has helped to stop a shop burglary and arrest the suspect.

Officers were rushed to the scene of a break-in at a shop in Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield after the neighbour alerted them shortly after 4.15am this morning (Thursday, 15 October).

As they spotted a bike outside and heard loud banging inside, they entered the building leading to the arrest of a 37-year-old man. He remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Ian Holmes, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We were called by a concerned neighbour and arrived to find a suspect still inside the building. A police officer was very swiftly on the scene and was quickly able to detain a suspect.

“Burglaries are hugely damaging for local businesses, especially at this difficult time, so I am delighted that we were able to resolve this incident so quickly.”
