A female officer of the Metropolitan Police has been stabbed as she intervened in an attempted robbery at a grocery shop in Westminster.

The incident happened at around 3.40 pm on Sunday (4 October) when she was in Chapter Street, SW1 with a male colleague.

She received a stab wound to the abdomen as both officers tried to detain two males, armed with knives, who had been pushed out of the store by the shopkeeper.

Despite being stabbed, the officer continued to chase the suspects along Vauxhall Bridge Road.

Met Police said the officer has subsequently been discharged after being taken to hospital for treatment.

“For this officer to be stabbed on duty is unacceptable. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured and has now been discharged from hospital,” Chief Inspector Simon Brooker, Central West BCU, said

“I applaud her bravery in responding to this call. This courage is typical of Met officers as they go about their duties.”

The suspects, both believed to be 15 years old, were detained a short time later with the assistance of firearms officers.
