Southern Co-op trials new home delivery service

    Stockbridge Road Co-op store, Chichester

Southern Co-op has unveiled a new home delivery service through Snappy Shopper app.

The trial of the service has started from Monday (28 September) in Chichester and Portsmouth, offering local residents the option of having their shopping delivered within an hour.

The service will create 24 new jobs in these cities, the retailer said.

Andrew Farndell, head of trading and format at Southern Co-op, said the co-operative has been planning the service from late last year, but lockdown forced it to focus on keeping the shelves stocked.

“We know some of our colleagues went above and beyond and delivered essentials in their local neighbourhoods but we just didn’t have the capacity to roll this out everywhere. So it’s both a relief and a pleasure to be launching the trial in Chichester and Portsmouth with the hope it can be rolled out wider later on this year,” Farndell said.

There will be more than 1,700 different products available to order. The service will cost £3, plus a 4% service charge payable to Snappy Shopper and will be available from 9am to 8pm seven days a week.
