Record sales for JJ as home consumers continue to shop in bulk

JJ Foodservice said it has seen record sales in August as its newly acquired home consumers continue shopping with them alongside the re-opened restaurants.

Total sales increased by 9.27 per cent in the four weeks of August when compared with the same period in the previous year, JJ reported.

The wholesaler picked up thousands of new customers after launching a business-to-consumer service at the start of the pandemic.

“We reacted immediately to the lockdown with the launch of our next day home delivery service”, said Mushtaque Ahmed, chief operating officer for JJ.

Many have stayed loyal after realising the benefits of bulk buying, JJ said.

“We didn’t profiteer”, Ahmed added. “By not increasing our prices – we have built trust with customers and many have continued to shop with us.”

Ahmed said the firm has also attracted many new restaurant customers who were trading over the lockdown period by maintaining a robust and reliable supply chain over the past five months.

“After trying us out – many have decided to stay,” he said.

“We are by no means out of the woods but to get this far under unprecedented circumstances is a great achievement.”
