A.F. Blakemore to supply ‘help from hospital’ bags

A.F. Blakemore has secured a contract with the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) to supply products for the ‘help from hospital’ bags.

The bags provide essentials to patients leaving hospital and NHS staff. Products include tea, coffee, milk, tuna, baked beans, soups, a wafer snack and soft drinks as well as a toothbrush, toothpaste and soap.

The company will supply products for 5000 bags to four RVS distribution centres across the UK.

A.F. Blakemore has earlier partnered with the RVS to join the NHS Volunteer Responders programme, along with fellow SPAR wholesalers Appleby Westward and James Hall & Co.

SPAR partners with Royal Voluntary Service to support NHS volunteers

The tie-up allows NHS volunteers to shop for the vulnerable person they are supporting at over 700 SPAR stores. SPAR is the first convenience food retailer to support the NHS volunteers scheme, which has seen over 750,000 people signing up.

“During the coronavirus crisis many of our SPAR stores have been prioritising home deliveries for those identified by the government as vulnerable, and the NHS Volunteer Responders scheme and ‘help from hospital’ bags are great ways that we can make even more of a difference,” said Sarah Ellis, group marketing director at A.F. Blakemore.

As part of its COVID-19 response, the wholesaler is also helping to deliver food and drink donated by partners such as Milk & More, Pepsi Co., Lucozade, Fulfil and Walkers Snacks to NHS workers across the UK.
