A Watford retailer has sadly passed away after contracting coronavirus.

Himanshu Patel, of Kays Newsagent in St Albans Road, was taken to hospital on Easter Monday, but succumbed to the deadly virus on Wednesday (15 April).

Patel, 51, is survived by his wife, his father and twin boys. He had been running the shop for over 10 years.

“It is desperately sad. I only spoke to him five days ago to see how he was getting on. He was such a lively, bubbly man,” said Raju Patel, president of the Watford branch of NFRN.

Stuart Reddish, NFRN national president, added: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with his wife and family. The NFRN will do everything we can to help and support them through this immensely difficult period.”

Krishnasamy Chiyamalan, of Templeton News in Dartford, is believed to be one of the first retailers in the UK to die from the deadly virus.

Chiyamalan, 41, passed away at his home on 4 April.
