General Mills workers support Iver Environment Centre to mark World Earth Day

A group of 50 volunteers from General Mills has on Wednesday helped the Iver Environment Centre to prepare for the busy spring season.

Located in the Colne Valley between Uxbridge and Slough, Iver Environment Centre is one of four environmental education centres across the UK which are owned by the National Grid.

Continuing an Earth Day (22 April) tradition which has now been going on for over ten years, General Mills employees worked in small teams to clean up the play area ahead of the summer term so it can be used by local school children. They also created a planting and learning zone for visitors, prepared allotments for the growing season and enhanced the experience for the very youngest visitors by constructing items for the early years area.

Joy Morrissey, local MP, appreciated the volunteering work.

“The Iver Environment Centre is a brilliant community space here in the Colne Valley doing important work engaging with people of all ages and abilities to help appreciate, learn about and protect our natural spaces,” she said.

“I am delighted that so many chose to volunteer at The Iver Environment Centre and give back to our local community.”

Jonathan Bennett, director of external relations at General Mills, said: “We are delighted to be back at the Iver Environment Centre supporting our local community to mark World Earth Day. We hope that as a result of our contribution many more people in the local area will be able to use and enjoy this precious community resource.

“As a global food company, we are committed to inspiring others to look after the environment in which we grow our food. This is why our team strives to continue to be a force for good through our partnerships and collaborations.”

Emma Rust from the Iver Environment Centre, said: “We’re grateful for the continued support of our corporate volunteers particularly General Mills as we couldn’t possibly provide what we do for the community without them.

“General Mills has been a loyal supporter for many years and the work the employees do to help us prepare for our busy season is a great help and recognised by the community.”
