In response to the alarming increase in retail crime across the UK the British Independent Retailers Association (Bira) is encouraging its members to fortify their security measures.

In an announcement made today (2), Bira is asking retailers to delve into a comprehensive document on the UK Police Requirements for CCTV Systems. This crucial guide has been generously shared with Bira by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) and is set to be published on the updated .gov landing page dedicated to digital imaging, CCTV, and video-based evidence.

The surge in retail crime has become a growing concern for independent retailers, prompting Bira to take proactive steps in collaboration with the NPCC. The document offers essential insights into the latest guidelines set by the UK Police for the effective implementation and maintenance of CCTV systems. By adhering to these guidelines, retailers can significantly enhance their security infrastructure, aiding in both the prevention and resolution of criminal activities.

Bira members are urged to visit the official .gov landing page for further information. These resources are not only valuable for understanding the technical requirements of CCTV systems but also for staying abreast of the recently updated procedures surrounding CCTV evidence.

In addition to the document on UK Police Requirements for CCTV Systems, the .gov landing page offers further information on digital imaging, CCTV, and video-based evidence. Retailers are encouraged to explore the resources available on the page to stay informed about best practices and updated procedures in the realm of CCTV evidence.

Bira remains committed to supporting its members in navigating the challenges of the ever-evolving retail landscape. By proactively engaging with the provided guidelines, independent retailers can contribute to a safer and more secure retail environment for all.
