Convenience retailing group McColl’s has announced a new partnership with Deliveroo to offer home delivery of products.

Over 120 McColl’s stores have been signed up on the Deliveroo app, with a total of 300 stores expected to join the delivery network in due course.

Customers can purchase a range of daily essentials including food and drink items, toiletries, cleaning products and magazines through the app, and the orders will be delivered to their doorstep in as little as under 30 minutes.

McColl’s said the partnership is a significant move to make sure customers, particularly the elderly and those in isolation due to COVID-19, can still access the food and toiletries.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to get their daily essentials as they stay at home. The partnership allows us to further our support of the neighbourhood communities we serve, providing the option of home delivery for a wide range of quality goods from our stores across the country,” said Jonathan Miller, chief executive of McColl’s.

Ajay Lakhwani, vice president of new business at Deliveroo, added: “McColl’s has an excellent operational track record and together we can achieve national scale at pace. This is particularly important during COVID-19 when people are isolating and at home, especially the elderly and vulnerable. This partnership will help reach people right across the country.”

M&S has also stitched a deal late last month with Deliveroo to offer home delivery of groceries. The online food delivery platform has an existing partnership with Co-op.

Deliveroo rival Uber Eats has a strong presence in the convenience sector, sealing deals with Bestway Retail and Costcutter last year.
