Paul Stone’s stores hit one million sandwich sales in support of Marie Curie

Five SPAR stores owned by independent retailer Paul Stone in Manchester have reached a major milestone in sandwich sales to support the work of Marie Curie nurses.

The stores at City Tower, Oxford Road, Princess Street, Piccadilly and St Mary’s Gate have collectively sold one million sandwiches since Marie Curie became SPAR UK’s national charity partner in November 2016.

One penny from every sandwich and wrap sold in a SPAR store in the North of England goes to Marie Curie, meaning that over £10,000 has been raised for the UK’s leading end of life care charity in the six-year period, helping to support more than 500 Marie Curie nursing hours.

His City Tower store, jointly owned with Rob Hinchey, is the leading SPAR store in Northern England for sales closely followed by the Oxford Road store.

Paul Stone said: “When I reflect on the figure of one million sandwich sales across my Manchester SPAR stores, it is very humbling, especially as those sales fund Marie Curie directly through the one penny initiative.

“James Hall & Co. Ltd supply my stores with a great tasting food to go range with consistently strong availability. Credit must also go to the teams that work across the stores who ensure the outstanding presentation of the sandwiches and wraps on the shelves to draw in customers.”

Rob Hinchey said: “I’m really proud of SPAR City Tower’s achievement. We have a fantastic food to go offer in store and it’s a great feeling that this contributes to the incredible work carried out by Marie Curie.

“I’ve been with SPAR since I left university. I have a long family association with the brand as my parents had a store and my cousin currently has one, so I understand its value to people and the communities we serve.”

Marie Curie Healthcare Assistant, Suzy Collier, who has been working for the charity for 15 years, said: “Marie Curie is a wonderful charity that provides end-of-life support to people and families across the country. My role as a Healthcare Assistant is something I take immense pride in.

“Every little bit of money donated really aids our work and helps us to look after those in need, so I would like to say a huge thank you to Paul, Rob, James Hall & Co. Ltd, SPAR and its customers for the generous support we continue to receive through the sandwich sale initiative.”
