A man has been arrested after shop staff were threatened at knifepoint in a terrifying ordeal in Middlewich, stated recent reports.

A 23-year-old local man has since been arrested on suspicion of knifepoint robbery in Morrisons Local store on Poplar Drive in Middlewich on Sunday (3). He is currently being questioned by officers.

According to local reports, the offender, wearing a face covering, burst into the store and  demanded money from the tills. He then fled the convenience store with a quantity of cash and got into a blue car which was parked outside. The vehicle was seen to drive off in the direction of Long Lane South.

Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with any information or video footage to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Kate Palin, from Cheshire Police CID, said, “Thankfully on this occasion there were no reports of any injuries, although the staff were left shaken as a result of their ordeal.

“While a man has been arrested in connection with the robbery, our enquiries remain ongoing.

“As part of the investigation I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area between 10.45am and 11.45am on Sunday, July 3, and thinks they have witnessed the incident or seen the offender before or after the robbery.

“The same goes for anyone who thinks they may have CCTV or dashcam footage which may aid our investigation.”
