A new Co-op supermarket in i has been given permission to sell alcohol despite objections raised in reference to underage sales, stated recent reports.
The decision to grant licensing application from Central England Co-operative was made by North Lincolnshire Council at a meeting on Thursday, November 18.
As per local reports, the shop is set to be built on the Kingsway circle with Ashby Road if planning permission is given at a later date. However, a local woman had raised concerns saying that she was worried about alcohol being sold close to colleges and the university campus.
“These developers are targeting young people 16 to 21 years from the two further education colleges and university, who walk near here. Having children (now grown) and having lived in this area for over 40 years, it is easy for young people to acquire alcohol from over 18s,” local reports quoted the woman as saying,
No objections to the licence were received from the authorities including Humberside Police, Trading Standards, Humberside Fire and Rescue or Environmental Protection.
“The approval will be subject to agreed conditions for the prevention of crime and disorder, the prevention of public safety, the prevention of public nuisance and protection of children from harm being adhered to and incorporated within the premises licence,” the council said in the meeting.
Co-op, meanwhile, has said it would operate a Challenge 25 policy with electronic records kept of every alcohol sale.
