Rapid grocery delivery company Getir Tuesday announced an agreement to buy its British rival Weezy.

The Turkish firm has a strong presence in London, and operates in several west European countries and the US. It has attracted around $1 billion in three back-to-back funding rounds this year, putting its valuation at more than $7.5 billion (£5.6bn).

Financial terms for the deal were not disclosed.

Getir and Weezy are part of a new army of European rapid delivery firms that, backed by billions of dollars of venture capital from Europe, the US, China and Japan, are using electric bikes and scooters to deliver groceries in minutes.

Last month, Russian tech giant Yandex has launched its grocery delivery business, Yango Deli, in London.
