Birds Bakery supports WellChild in London Marathon

Birds Bakery is showing its support for WellChild, by donating a portion of the proceeds from its special-edition gingerbread biscuits in the run up to the London Marathon on Sunday (3).

Its operations manager Karen Wain is also taking part in the marathon to raise much-needed funds for the charity, which provides care for seriously ill children and young people in the UK.

Everyone that is taking part on Sunday is assigned a child, who is part of the WellChild family, and Karen will be running for Noah who has a very rare form of interstitial lung disease.

Karen said: “I’m delighted to be taking part in the marathon and supporting WellChild and the fantastic work they do. Noah’s condition means he struggles to breathe and needs 24-hour care, so these funds are so important for these children.

“Thanks to additional care and support, Noah will be able to attend a mainstream school and have a better quality of life. Thank you to everyone who has donated already, and I’ll see you all at the finish line.”

Mike Holling, sales and marketing director at Birds Bakery, said: “We’re so proud of Karen for taking part in the London Marathon, especially to support such a worthy cause. To help her raise further funds, we will be selling gingerbread biscuits this week and donating money from every one we sell.

“We’ve supported WellChild for a number of years and it’s important for us to contribute in any way we can. We wish Karen all the best of luck for Sunday and for those who will be attending, look out for runner 45895!”
