EG Group to create 300 new Kickstarter roles

EG Group said it will be creating up to 300 new roles as part of the government’s Kickstart Scheme.

The scheme provides funding to employers to create new jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.

The leading forecourt operator said the new roles will provide applicants an opportunity to work at either EG Group’s foodservice brands, including Greggs, Starbucks, KFC, Burger King, and Subway, at the petrol filling stations, or at its head office in Blackburn.

At the end of the six-month placement, they will have the opportunity to apply for permanent roles, the group added.

“Young people are often the ones who have experienced the most significant consequences as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and so we are very pleased to be able to play a role in helping young people get back on their feet,” commented Donna Whittaker, head of hr and payroll UK, EG Group.

“By opening up such a large number of employment opportunities and providing hands-on mentorship and support throughout, EG Group is demonstrating its long-standing commitment to developing talent and giving back to the communities which we operate within.”

EG Group said Kickstarters will be paid in line with current pay levels, in addition to various incentives for involvement in the scheme, including monetary awards for those who complete the full six months and a further award once they transition into a permanent role and the probationary period completes.

During the palcement, Kickstarters will be mentored by a manager and provided with the opportunity to complete a number of employability modules to improve their workplace skills.
