Lindeman’s to be carbon neutral by end of this year

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has announced a new partnership between its Lindeman’s Wines and the Carbon Trust.

The collaboration aims to make Lindeman’s branded products carbon neutral in Europe by the end of 2020.

TWE has already completed measuring the product carbon footprint of its glass and cardboard packaged Lindeman’s range by working with the Carbon Trust. The brand has since taken several measures across its regional supply chain to reduce its carbon footprint, alongside investing in carbon credits.

“Sustainability is a key priority for TWE across all regions and this partnership with the Carbon Trust is another step in our journey,” commented Ben Blake, head of marketing for EMEA at TWE.

“We are now looking forward to achieving our ambition of being certified carbon neutral by the end of 2020. Lindeman’s is the perfect brand to lead the way in Europe, with its significant profile across the UK, the Nordics and The Netherlands.”

As part of its measures to reduce carbon footprint, Lindeman’s has moved its Europe portfolio to lightweight bottles and optimised the recyclability of its packaging. At winery-level, it now uses solar-powered, renewable energy as well as efficient refrigeration.

The brand’s investment in global carbon positive projects includes reforestation projects in the Amazon rainforest and the UK, supporting solar power in the Philippines and wind farms in India.

TWE recently announced new sustainability goals including the introduction of global packaging guidelines with targets of 100% of packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable by end of 2022 and 100% of product and outer packaging materials to comprise 50% average recycled content by 2025 globally.
