JTI to take back non-track and trace and menthol packs

JTI said it will take back all non-compliant track and trace and menthol packs from retailers.

While the ban on the sale of menthol flavoured cigarettes took effect today (20 May) with no transition period, the sell through period for tobacco track and trace regulations, which came into force on this day last year, ended yesterday.

JTI to take back non-track and trace and menthol packs“After listening to feedback from trade customers and retailers across all channels, JTI can now confirm that we will take back all non-compliant Track & Trace and Menthol & Capsule stock held by every retailer who our sales reps visit,” said Ross Hennessy, sales vice president at JTI UK.

“We will aim to uplift this stock within 12 weeks from the time our sales reps return to the trade.”

Hennessy urged retailers to keep the packs that need swapping separate from other stock as the COVID-19 situation could delay visits by representatives. The retailers will need to supply the representative with both track and trace ID codes.

Philip Morris has earlier announced a buy-back system to support retailers after the menthol ban.

Retailers will be able to return unsold Philip Morris menthol cigarette packs which have had all UK duty paid, and are in plain packaging. The packs eligible include Marlboro Green, Marlboro Ice Blast and Chesterfield Green.
