Avon and Somerset Police have reported the arrest of a suspect following a daring robbery at a convenience store in East Street, Bedminster.

The incident, which occurred at about 4.20pm on last Thursday (11 April), saw three individuals storm into the store, brandishing an axe, and threatening a shop worker before ransacking the premises and fleeing with cash from the till.

The suspects made a swift getaway in a vehicle, prompting authorities to alert patrolling units immediately. Officers spotted a similar vehicle, which had later crashed in King Georges Road. Despite the occupants attempting to flee the scene, police managed to detain one individual in nearby Anton Bantock Way shortly after the crash.

A man in his twenties was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray and robbery, and he remains in police custody as the investigation progresses.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information or footage that could aid in their investigation. This includes dashcam recordings, doorbell camera footage, or CCTV recordings of either the robbery or the subsequent crash and attempted escape. Those with relevant information are urged to contact the police at 101, quoting the reference number 5224092567, or to utilise the online appeals form.

Alternatively, individuals can reach out to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111 or via their Anonymous Online Form. It’s emphasized that no personal details are required, and any information shared cannot be traced or recorded. Furthermore, individuals providing tips to Crimestoppers will not be required to attend court or speak directly with the police.
