A convenience store planned as part of a service station development can be three times the size as originally proposed.
Last year plans to redevelop part of the former Colin Appleyard site on Otley Road were approved by Bradford Council.
The plans, by Leeds-based family business Valli Forecourts, would see the site return to its previous use as a filling station. The application also included a 220 square metre, 24 hour shop.
Earlier this year an amended plan for the site was submitted – but this time with a larger shop measuring 660 square metres.
Bradford Council has now approved these amended plans, with officers saying the shop was not likely to take trade from other town centre businesses.
They said: “The retail aspect is proposed as and is considered to be ancillary to the primary function of the site as a petrol filling station.
“This arrangement is not uncommon and neither is the scale of the retail element proposed.”
Established in 2002, Valli Forecourts operates 15 petrol forecourts and convenience stores, most of them in Yorkshire.
