JJ Foodservice said it is selling record amount of chicken thanks to a competitive price point.
The wholesaler offers fresh chicken breast fillets for £3.25per kg (£12.99 for 4 x 1kg packs), compared with between £5-£7.50per kg at major supermarkets.
Chicken sales hit more than one million kilograms in April, 10 percent up on the same period in the previous year.
More than 20 percent of the wholesaler’s fresh chicken sales now go to household customers after the group launched a next day home delivery service at the start of the lockdown.
“Our smaller packs of fresh chicken have been hugely popular with households, offering a middle ground between traditional wholesale and retail packs, at unbeatable prices,” said Sezer Ozkul, chief product officer at JJ.
The wholesaler said 35 percent of its customers are now households.
“Even as the lockdown eases, we will continue to offer our household range and hope that people will continue to take advantage of great savings,” said Sezer.
