A Postmaster who has moved into his premises during the coronavirus outbreak has been praised as an ‘absolute gem’ by his MP.

Azim Shaikh, now resident in Whalley Post Office in Lancashire, has moved into his workplace to keep business going during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He furloughed staff to keep them safe while moving out of his home to keep his family infection free.

Shaikh now lives in his Post Office to ensure the most vulnerable people can benefit from the service as he believes it to be his ‘duty to do so for all his customers’.

Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans said: “This is a superb sacrifice that Azim is making to keep his customers served in Whalley and also keep his family safe.

    “His volunteering is hugely commendable.

“Azim is an absolute gem and deserves to be recognized.”
