A Nisa organised tour of food outlets in Ireland has inspired retailers to introduce a host of new fresh offers into their stores.
A group of Nisa’s key account members attended the event held in early autumn with the aim of showcasing some of the best instore fresh food offers in Ireland.
The study tour focused on the production and packaging of meal solutions in-store and saw retailers take in a range of establishments including two award-winning Nisa supermarkets – Fiveways Nisa Extra in Newry and Milestone Nisa Extra in Rathfriland.
Victoria Lockie, Head of Key Accounts at Nisa, said: “The main objective of the event was to give retailers the chance to look, listen and learn how to develop and drive freshly made, in-store product in a profitable and managed way. We carefully selected the stores to visit as we believed they really did showcase the very best of the best.”
After being inspired by the trip, the Proudfoot Group in North Yorkshire were motivated to introduce their ‘Simply Cook’ range.
Valerie Aston, Director at the Proudfoot Group, said: “I’ve heard for years that Nisa’s Northern Ireland members are really good at fresh and I wanted to see what they do well and why it works.
“Ireland is a totally different market. What we saw was just amazing and we are trying to develop our own fresh range to offer something that much better.”
The venture is already proving popular with Proudfoot customers. Valerie said: “Our sales figures show the meals have really taken off. And once we added our packaging sleeve with the original artwork they did even better and it has generated some good feedback from our customers.”
“We have lots of plans for the next steps but at the moment we want to make sure we have it right and so we’re working on what we have with plans to increase steadily.”
