Golden Wonder, which originated in Stockbridge 70 years ago, launched its new product, Golden Wonder Chippies, in the town’s Scotmid store today.

Chippies, potato sticks in Chip Shop Curry, Salt & Vinegar and Ready Salted flavours, are now available in 45g bags at Scotmid in Stockbridge.

Matt Smith, marketing director for Golden Wonder, explains:  “We are very excited to be officially launching Chippies at Golden Wonder’s birthplace today. Golden Wonder is a well-loved and iconic brand that started in Stockbridge 70 years ago and Chippies are the next chapter in our story.  With their punchy, chip-shop inspired flavours, Chippies really deliver the fully-flavoured taste that Golden Wonder is famous for.”

Stephen Brown, Scotmid’s local sourcing manager, said:  “Scotmid is proud to help Golden Wonder to launch its newest product, Chippies, at our Stockbridge store.

“Scotmid, like Golden Wonder, also started in Edinburgh before expanding further afield and it’s brilliant to be able to celebrate the brand’s heritage.  Generations of Scots have grown up eating Golden Wonder crisps and it is a truly iconic brand.”

Matt added:  “We have designed our packaging to evoke fond associations with the seaside and chip shops, with waves made up of swirling words representing Golden Wonder’s story, including ‘Stockbridge’, ‘William Alexander’ and ’70 years ago’.  This packaging, which is being used nationwide, celebrates our Scottish roots.

“Chippies are an exciting edition to the Golden Wonder family and we hope that our supporting marketing activity, such as the dedicated launch with product sampling, will encourage trial and purchase.  We are confident that Chippies will become a firm favourite with the people of Stockbridge and beyond.”

Chippies are available in 45g bags (RRP 69p) and 100g sharing bags (RRP £1).
