Karro Food Group and Young’s Seafood Limited will now be part of Eight Fifty Food Group, a new ownership group formed following the acquisition of Young’s by Karro in July.

The new company, which has sales of circa £1.2 billion, is part of Karro’s – one of the leading pork processors in the UK – plan to create an ambitious multi-protein food business of considerable scale.

“Our new name … stems from there being approximately 850 acres in one square nautical mile and as such represents the unity of land and sea and the two important protein categories that make up our business,” said Di Walker, chief executive of Eight Fifty Food Group.

“It also reflects the coming together of Karro and Young’s into a new Group and our ambitious plans to grow the two businesses, as well as pursuing further growth in protein food categories currently experiencing significant growth,” she added.

Young’s will continue to operate as a separate business within Eight Fifty Food Group.
