Fine food distributor Cotswold Fayre has announced that they will not list any new soft drinks products in plastic bottles.
The decision comes as the company, a certified B Corporation, seeks new ways to minimise the impact of its supply chain in the environment.
Paul Hargreaves, chief executive at Cotswold Fayre, said: “Consumers are undoubtedly conscious of purchasing too much plastic and many producers are moving to 250ml cans to reflect this concern.
“Interestingly cans were perceived as being far less premium than bottles a decade ago, but there is now much more acceptance of cans and cartons as an alternative to plastic as consumers actively seek out more sustainable packaging options.
“We are also encouraging existing suppliers who have no short-term choice other than plastic bottles to look at increasing their bottle size which also has a positive environmental impact.”
In 2015, Cotswold Fayre became a B Corporation, a certification which recognises businesses which are using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
