Podarok gift shop, an independent store in Cambridge, has released CCTV footage of a distraction theft, as two men worked together in order to steal money from the cash register.
The shop later posted the video onto its Facebook page in order to ask for the public’s help in identifying the thieves.
The footage shows one man approaching the shop counter and speaking to the female assistant who was on duty. He appears to ask for help, which allows him to lure the assistant away from the shop counter towards the back of the store. Whilst this is happening, a second man enters the shop and proceeds to steal money from the cash register, before making his escape.
Since the video was posted it has been seen by more than 70,000 people and shared nearly 1,500 times. “Please share and get them caught – we are disgusted that they would target our lovely little Cambridge shop,” read the Facebook post. The store owners have also reported the crime to the police.
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact Cambridge police, quoting the Crime Reference number CF0178070515.
