Carabao has announced it has moved production from Refresco in The Netherlands to Thailand.
In a statement, the company said the move will increase supply chain flexibility and improve integration with the Thai R&D product development team.
David Butcher, MD at Carabao UK&I, said: “Refresco has been a fantastic partner to us in the UK for the last three years and helped us get to where we are today. We have no doubt they’ll continue to be invaluable to our other international markets. However, we are very excited to start making use of our newly-built state-of-the-art facility in Thailand, which will allow us to take our brilliant products to the next level.”
Sited on the outskirts of Bangkok, the factory is newly purpose built to make Carabao energy drinks and has the capacity to produce more than 1.5 billion cans a year.
There will be no change to any of the recipes.
Carabao will also introduce a new flavour in the spring.
David Butcher added: “We know our drinks taste amazing, and consumers agree – with twice as many preferring the taste of Carabao Green Apple over a competitor in blind taste tests. This has given us the confidence to push ahead with our vertical integration plans as one part of our hugely exciting 2020 plans, which also include a new flavor launch, building on our massive football sponsorship deals with the EFL, the Carabao Cup and Chelsea FC and investing with our brilliant customers! 2020 is going to be our biggest year yet and we cannot wait to help customers across the UK drive incremental category sales.”
