Camelot forecasts bumper sales with two festive draws; Bonus events for retailers

Special Lotto and EuroMillions draws could see sales boosted by up to 116 per cent and 146 per cent respectively, the National Lottery operator Camelot has predicted.

The £15 million Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ draw on Wednesday 23 December is set to give National Lottery players the chance to start their Christmas celebrations early with a cash win.

The recent enhancement to Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ draws sees players matching two main numbers win £5 and a Lucky Dip in a roll down.

The EuroMillions 10 UK Millionaires draw on 1 January will see 10 guaranteed UK winners of £1 million each.

Camelot said EuroMillions POS will begin landing in stores on 28 December and Lotto POS this week, to help drive the extra sales.

The opportunity is in addition to a range of Christmas Scratchcards. Any of this year’s festive-themed range of Scratchcards would make for the perfect last-minute Christmas gift or a cracking card filler, including Cash Cracker, Christmas Advent Calendar, Christmas Countdown, Festive £500s and Winter Wonderlines.

Camelot has provided retailers with special flashing dispenser lights to help boost those impulse Scratchcard purchases.

There are also some fantastic bonus events that National Lottery retailers can take advantage of over the festive period, including the special ‘Advent Calendar’ giveaway which has loads of prizes on offer – from £5 to £500 – and a prize draw for £1,000.

Retailers simply need to visit the Retailer Hub and go to the special ‘Advent’ section to open a calendar door. With each one opened, retailers gain one entry into the £1,000 prize draw, and either win an instant cash prize, see a top sales tip or get a Christmas cracker-style joke.

With the bonus event for the Lotto and EuroMillions special event draws, retailers can earn £10 per draw if they upload an image of their Playstation with correct POS to the Retailer Hub.

Jenny Blogg, Camelot’s retail director, urged retailers to be prepared for the increase in footfall as shoppers pick up last-minute items.

“There are a number of things you can do in store to make sure you’re getting those extra National Lottery sales, including making sure all POS is sited, suggesting a Scratchcard game to customers which they can gift to friends or family, and reminding customers to buy a ticket at the till – perhaps even mention the great new cash prize for Match 2 on a Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ Rolldown,” she said.

“We, of course, also have two fantastic special seasonal draws lined up with millions of pounds to be won – each of which will be sure to create a great talking point with customers. Retailers could see up to a 116 per cent sales uplift on the Lotto ‘Must Be Won’ draw and 146 per cent on the EuroMillions 10 UK Millionaires draw compared with normal draws – so it’s definitely worth asking customers if they’d like a Lucky Dip at the till, as there is so much to play for!”
