An ATM machine was attacked in a daring ram raid using a JCB today (15 July) in Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire.

The offenders drove the JCB into the Co-op in Main Street at around 2.20am, causing significant damage to the building.

Nottinghamshire Police said it is not clear yet whether cash was stolen from the machine. The suspects didn’t take the machine.

Officers pursued the suspects who had fled the scene in a white Nissan pick-up and a black Audi, after the truck was spotted heading along the A614 towards Ollerton.

The truck driver hit the police vehicle, before the occupants escaped on foot. A search of the area using drones and a police helicopter failed to locate the suspects.

    The black Audi remains outstanding.

Detectives said they are following a number of lines of enquiry and have appealed for witnesses.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen the vehicles fleeing the scene, anyone who believes that they may know who the offenders are or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of them arriving at or leaving the scene,” said Detective Inspector Kim Binns, of Nottinghamshire Police.

“We understand that incidents like this can be very concerning for communities but I want to reassure people that we are working very hard on this investigation and are doing all we can to trace those responsible.”

Anyone with any information which could assist the investigation is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 54 of 15 July 2020, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
